Keep Me Safe App for International Students

New International Student Support Program: Keep.me SAFE

For international students, studying abroad is an exciting life experience, but one that also comes with many challenges. Students face all the usual demands and pressures of college life while at the same time adjusting to different classroom expectations and a new culture, often while communicating in a second or additional language.

Keep.me SAFE is now available to support international students at MHC as they adapt to study and life Canada. Keep.me SAFE provides students with 24-hour access to multilingual and multicultural experts, so that students may discuss their challenges and concerns with someone who speaks their language and understands their culture.

Students can access support by:

  • downloading the My SSP App (available from the App store/ Google Play)
  • calling 1.844.451.9700, or
  • visiting www.keepmesafe.org

Please contact the International office (403.504.3615) room C226 with any questions.

Tuition Freeze

“Alberta’s students have placed some hope in this review on tuition for a more sustainable and predictable tuition model. The government’s commitment to backfill funding to PSIs during this freeze acknowledges that neither students nor PSIs should bear the burden of this process. ASEC hopes that same acknowledgement will also characterize Alberta’s new approach to tuition and fees as we move into the new year.”

e-Writing

e-Writing Support is now available to MHC students and is available through Blackboard! When logging into Blackboard, there is a new “Organizations Catalog” module on the opening My Institution page with a Student Supports folder. If you click on the folder the e-Writing Support service is listed, and you can self-enroll from there. Once enrolled, you have access to submit your assignments to the writing specialist, Taryn, in Blackboard for comments. You will get the same service from Taryn that you would in drop-in, but with the option of an online medium. The e-support also includes links to the writing support webpage, the library’s APA/MLA guides page, and to the academic calendar for plagiarism definitions. Any questions about this service can be directed to Taryn herself.
