Overview
Under Alberta’s Post-secondary Learning Act, the General Academic Council (GAC) is empowered to advise the Board of Governors on a range of academic matters. This includes, but is not limited to, academic priorities, academic planning, academic programming, and the college calendar. The Council plays a crucial role in shaping the academic direction and ensuring that the institution’s educational offerings align with the strategic goals and standards set by the Board.
Composition
The General Academic Council is composed of a diverse group of representatives to ensure broad perspectives are considered in its deliberations:
- All Four Student Executives: The student executives, including the President, Vice President External, Vice President Community, and Vice President Internal, are integral members of the GAC. Their involvement ensures that student interests and viewpoints are directly represented in academic discussions and decisions.
- Student Council Representatives: In addition to the student executives, representatives from the Student Council are also part of the GAC. These representatives bring additional student perspectives and contribute to a comprehensive understanding of student needs and priorities.
