SAMHC Membership
Student Membership Rights
At Medicine Hat College, the Students’ Association (SA) plays a vital role in representing and supporting students’ interests. When students register for one or more courses at either the main campus or Brooks campus, they become members of the SA by paying associated fees alongside their tuition. This membership grants students a range of valuable rights, including:
- Voting in all SA elections and referenda.
- Joining any club and holding office in clubs recognized and supported by the SA.
- Running for positions in SA executive or council representative elections.
- Serving on regular and special committees of the Association.
- Petitioning the Association, MHC Administration, or the College Board through the SA for various causes or concerns.
- Enjoying benefits provided by the SA, including representation and programming supported by their student fees.
- Participating in all recreational and athletic programs supported by the SA.
The Post-secondary Learning Act of Alberta (S.95,2(e)) mandates the levying of fees on students’ association members. SAMHC budgets annually to use this revenue to provide programs, events, club administration, services, engagement and advocacy for the benefit of its membership. We’ve been known to give away free food every now and then too.
SAMHC membership consists of all MHC students, other than those enrolled exclusively in non-credit courses or are auditing programs at MHC. All fees are mandatory.
SAMHC Fee Structure:
| Credits | Students’ Association Fee |
| 1.0 | $8.40 |
| 3.0 | $25.20 |
